Bei den Oscars haben unterschiedlichste Filme gute Preischancen. Darunter eine Filmbiografie, ein Road-Movie und ein Familiendrama. Einige Werke mit deutscher Beteiligung gehören ebenfalls zu den Nominierten.
Mit zehn Nominierungen ist die Filmbiografie ‚Mank‘ der diesjährige Oscarfavorit. Das Werk von Regisseur David Fincher ist unter anderem als bester Film sowie für die beste Regie und die beste Musik nominiert, wie die Oscar-Akademie am Montag in Los Angeles bekanntgab. Außerdem wurde Gary Oldman für seine Rolle darin als bester Hauptdarsteller nominiert, Amanda Seyfried als beste Nebendarstellerin.
Dahinter reihen sich sechs Filme mit jeweils sechs Nominierungen: ‚The Father‘, das Drama ‚Minari – Wo wir Wurzeln schlagen‘ über eine koreanisch-amerikanische Familie, die Filmbiografie ‚Judas and the Black Messiah‘, das Road-Movie ‚Nomadland‘, ‚Sound of Metal‘ und der Gerichtsthriller ‚The Trial of the Chicago 7‘.
Auf einen Preis als beste Hauptdarstellerin können Viola Davis (‚Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom‘), Andra Day (‚The United States vs. Billie Holiday‘), Vanessa Kirby (‚Pieces of a Woman‘), Frances McDormand (‚Nomadland‘) und Carey Mulligan (‚Promising Young Woman‘) hoffen. In der Kategorie für den besten Hauptdarsteller sind neben Oldman für ‚Mank‘ noch Riz Ahmed für ‚Sound of Metal‘, Anthony Hopkins für ‚The Father‘, Steven Yeun für ‚Minari – Wo wir Wurzeln schlagen‘ sowie der im vorigen August an Krebs gestorbene ‚Black Panther‘-Star Chadwick Boseman posthum für ‚Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom‘ nominiert.
Mit Spannung waren auch die Nominierungen für die beste Regie erwartet worden. Dort können sich nun Thomas Vinterberg mit ‚Der Rausch‘, David Fincher mit ‚Mank‘, Lee Isaac Chung mit ‚Minari – Wo wir Wurzeln schlagen‘ sowie die beiden Regisseurinnen Emerald Fennell mit ‚Promising Young Woman‘ und Chloé Zhao mit ‚Nomadland‘ Hoffnungen machen.
Filme mit deutscher Beteiligung haben in der Oscarnacht ebenfalls Chancen auf eine Auszeichnung. In der Kategorie für den besten internationalen Spielfilm, dem sogenannten Auslands-Oscar, sind gleich zwei dieser Werke nominiert: Das Drama ‚Quo Vadis, Aida?‘ der in Berlin lebenden Regisseurin Jasmila Žbanić sowie die Dokumentation ‚Kollektiv – Korruption tötet‘. ‚Quo Vadis, Aida?‘ geht für Bosnien-Herzegowina ins Oscar-Rennen, ‚Kollektiv – Korruption tötet‘ für Rumänien. ‚Kollektiv‘, an dem der MDR beteiligt war, ist außerdem nominiert in der Sparte als beste Dokumentation.
Hollywoods höchste Auszeichnungen sollen am 24. April verliehen werden.
